What is nearby

Babesa sits at the southern end of Thimphu, on the road in from the expressway. The town and its landmarks are a short drive north.

  • Buddha Dordenma

    The great gilded Buddha above Kuensel Phodrang, looking down the length of the valley. The closest of the landmarks to Babesa.

  • Tashichho Dzong

    The fortress-monastery on the river at the north end of town, seat of the government and the central monastic body.

  • The weekend market

    Produce, dried chillies, cheese and incense along the Wang Chhu, busiest on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

  • Memorial Chorten

    A whitewashed stupa in the middle of town, circled from early morning by people walking their daily kora.

  • Simply Bhutan and the Folk Heritage Museum

    Two small museums of traditional Bhutanese building, dress and household life.

    A wooded enclosure above the town holding takin, the national animal.
